NexusHaus is a sustainable and affordable housing solution that addresses energy and water resource constraints. This net-zero-energy, zero-water capable house realizes these goals by combining photovoltaic electricity generation, integrated thermal/water storage systems and cutting-edge smart home management. The design of NexusHaus addresses environmental control factors that are unique to central Texas. It resolves the solar heat gain by including an air circulation system for the sun intense summers in the area. NexusHaus employs the dog trot and large covered deck on the south side, typical in the vernacular of Texas architecture. The ultimate goal of the NexusHaus is to serve as a prototype for the next generation of modular homes that can be reproduced en masse at an Austin assembly plant.
