MA Thesis Project
2017
This thesis illustrates a total renovation and enhancement of a “neglected” area. It realizes a new Water Eco-museum that integrates the heritage of ancient artifacts while promoting the natural patrimony with an educational experience for visitors of all ages.
The Water Purification Plant, in the Setta Valley, is located in the metropolitan city of Bologna, in the town of Sasso Marconi. The natural confluence with the stream of the Setta and the river Reno, coexist with an ancient Roman aqueduct, an abandoned Water Purification Plant from the early ‘900’s, old wells, water settlement tanks and the Hera Water Purification Plant.
The project illustrates a natural recovery and conservation of the facilities with enhanced park areas of greatest historical value. Another aspect of this project, dealt with a landscape design in order to make it accessible, while promoting the natural beauty of the surroundings. The final contribution to this thesis involves the construction of a new contemporary interactive museum in the former Water Purification Plant.
